History of the usage of Military Aircraft  |  Aircraft Series  |  By Justin Schatzki
In the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991, aircraft now sported advanced targeting computers, the heads-up-display, improvements in radar, communications, engines, and much more.

The Americans used the F-15 Eagle, while the Iraqis  used the Mig29 Fulcrum. The Mig29 was essentially the successor to the Mig21 and 23 fighters, with all the modern innovations in performance. The F-15 Eagle was designed as a successor to the F-14 Tomcat fighter jet (which had been introduced in 1974). The F-15 is a very advanced fighter jet that can punish most other aircraft. The tactics of military aircraft were still essentially the same, other than being adapted to new technology.

The Americans had the Global Positioning System on their side, which guided them to their destinations. In Operation Desert Storm, F-15 fighters along with F-117 nighthawks (the first stealth bomber) were sent into Iraqi military zones to bombard their defensive placements. The F-15s would gain air superiority and would fight the Mig29s. The F-15 pilots, with advanced training and technology, were able to defeat the enemy pilots and establish air superiority for the coalition forces.
